Course Overview
Conducting narcotics investigations presents a unique set of challenges and opportunities for law enforcement personnel. These challenges and opportunities demand new skill sets to evolve with the ever-changing world of drug culture. This course will provide the student with the knowledge and skill set to conduct a controlled narcotics purchase successfully and safely. This course will empower the student with the ability to effectively write various search warrants based on the criminal activity being directly seen during current narcotics investigators.
This course will provide law enforcement personnel with an accelerated introduction to the constantly evolving dynamics of narcotics investigations. Students will explore unconventional investigative techniques and learn the “Best Practices” employed to conduct these dangerous operations safely. This course will emphasize learning by doing activities involving actual and relevant case examples of controlled buys of narcotics and search warrants. No prior knowledge of narcotics training is required.
Who Should Attend
This class is designed for any active law enforcement personnel, support staff, or administrative assistants. Prior experience is not required.

Michael Wright
As a dedicated Detective with the Northern Colorado Police Agency Michael brings extensive experience and expertise in narcotics investigations. Currently serving as an Investigator with a multi-agency task force, Michael is deeply involved in initiating and conducting undercover operations, surveillance, and analysis of call detail records, Pen Register Trap & Trace, and GPS PINGs to combat drug-related crimes.
With over a decade of service in law enforcement, Michael has participated in over 1,000 narcotic-related investigations, including serving as a Case Agent in a Federal Title III Wiretap investigation. My work spans violations of Title 18 and Title 21 of the United States Codes, as well as state law violations.
As an active member of the Colorado Drug Investigators Association (CDIA) and the International Association of Undercover Officers, Michael is committed to staying at the forefront of cutting-edge techniques and technologies in the field. Michael has earned various certifications, including Colorado Peace Officers Standards and Testing Certification, and has taught numerous training courses on narcotics investigations. Michael often used his relationships to network and grow investigations.
Recognized as an expert witness in drug culture and drug distribution, Michael has provided crucial testimony in several high-profile cases, contributing to the successful prosecution of drug traffickers.
