The most informational aspect of the training for me were the parts on how to explain the information to an audience. How to walk the audience through the process in a slow and methodical way that allows them to understand it even though it can be technical. The examples of how the instructor lead us through were very insightful, however I will need to practice my skills to be as effective as he is in being a trusted expert and relaying a convincing story about the data. A similar training called "Myths and Realities of Cell Site Coverage Areas" discusses a lot of the same information, but doesn't go too in-depth on how to apply the knowledge in the real world, weather during the investigation or presenting it to an audience. It might be helpful to have one day of the technical and then another day on how to use the technical in the real world.

Explain the last section of the class, the case study where we had to list the top 5 phone numbers and addresses, more slowly or at a pace where notes can be taken. The only reason I say this is because taking notes helps me retain the information better and allows me to look back if I get stuck. Aside from that, the class was great and it really helped me understand cell phone data and mapping better.

I thought Englefield was a good teacher and very knowledgeable about the topic. However, I would not recommend this class to my agency only because we use a program which will automatically filter the CDR information for us. A good portion of time was spent teaching this topic which would not necessarily benefit my agency. I did however learn other bits of information regarding cell phones/towers which would be useful.

Great class

I was hoping to see more advanced techniques in cell phone data mapping, but after this class, I realized the basics work just fine. I especially appreciated the many real life examples and applications. The concept of highlighting both the cell sites used and those that weren't is also a useful tool in making a compelling argument. The search warrant information was interesting, but more useful for cops, not analysts.

I found the Excel instruction very useful and will be signing up for a future "Excel for public safety" course. I also found the practical exercises helpful in applying all the technical skills learned.

The course was the same material that he covered in the Cell Phone Investigations class... Same slideshow, same everything.
