This was an excellent course. I got more out of it than I thought I would, not that I thought I wouldn't get much out of it. I am highly impressed with all of the Police Technical courses that I have taken and will highly recommend this one and any other. Katie is an excellent instructor that is very knowledgeable with Excel. Not only that, she is very enthusiastic on the subject matter. She walked us through all of our problems and offered suggestions to those already familiar with Excel. I would highly recommend her as an instructor and would attend any other classes that she might teach.

Katie was very knowledgeable and provided great insight on how to improve my spreadsheets. Also, her examples of charts and presentations were very useful; it’s good to know what NOT to do when submitting statistical presentations.

As a beginner to Excel, the basics of navigating Excel is what I was looking forward to learning. The second day of class was more technical in which I struggled with as the material appeared to be more for those who have worked with Excel in the past and already know the basics. The manual issued should be very helpful in assisting me through the second half of the class for the more technical material. Thanks.

I think the course offered very important and useful tools for analyst. I do think the course description (or title) should be more specific what is going to be taught so that more advanced excel users are aware of what is covered prior to signing up for the class. I want to reiterate that as an advanced excel user, I think that this course and Instructor are extremely valuable and the methods chosen were excellent choices. Had I taken this course 5-6 years ago, it would have saved me an incredible amount of work, time, headaches, stress and errors. I also want to say that teaching excel sheets for 2 days is not an easy task but Kathleen did an excellent job of keeping the language "user friendly", kept her audience engaged and following, explained things clearly and made everything very easy to understand and again, the method's chosen for the course were excellent and skills that I use regularly. Kathleen was also very pleasant, upbeat, knowledgeable and overall a great Instructor!

It's very valuable to obtain this type of training that is geared toward individuals in law enforcement field. The examples used in class really helped me to think about how to apply each skill to my own everyday tasks. Also, I think including the information on formatting (in the charts section) is really useful because it gives an outside, neutral perspective on the presentation of data. So often in our jobs we do things because "it's the way things have always been done" rather than taking the time to think about whether it's the best way or taking the time to actually devise a better way even when you know it's not the best way...so often we are rushed and just want to get the task done. Being armed with ideas and a plan is very motivating to make beneficial changes to how we do things. A lot of the concepts presented are logical and obvious, but when you're staring at the same data/presentations for hours a week, it's easy to lose sight of how others are going to be interpreting it.
Another thing I appreciated about the class was that it was accessible for a beginner using Excel. I wouldn't consider myself an Excel wizard, but I'm very comfortable using Excel. Even though a lot of the class was presented on concepts I am relatively familiar with, I'm glad that it was taught this way because there's always small shortcuts that I can learn that will make tasks easier. There's always more to learn and more potential to uncover with a program like this. I also feel more confident recommending this class to coworkers knowing that it will not be too difficult for them to catch on even if they have little experience with Excel.
I would love to attend a more in-depth Excel for Public Safety class that goes into greater detail on forecasting and more complex formulas often used in the Crime Analysis field. I think it would be useful to bring some of our own data to work with in a class like this, since sometimes I don't realize what issues I will have with my own data manipulation until I'm actually working with my data. I think this class did a good job of showing data that had some issues, but each data set will have its own idiosyncrasies. Sometimes it's hard to anticipate what those will be when you're thinking about a project conceptually as opposed to actually working on it.
Thanks for a great class!
