Sustain: The course introduced Microsoft excel where beginners with a basic background would be able to follow. The sustain during this course was the introduction in organizing data, formatting, creating charts, tables, and graphs. During the two day course, approximately 1-2 hours was used on this block of instruction. It was very helpful to use actual crime data with the application for visual aids via charts and graphs. The data used was metrics via criminal mischief, arson, rape, murder, thefts, etc. This application can be further enhanced for Counterdrug personnel if a more precise drug nexus is used (marijuana, cocaine, fentanyl). The course should be enhanced on this with further instruction, application, and exercises on these applications. Pattern analysis for forecasting crime was also a beneficial tool that was mentioned which more time should be focused on using these visual aids. Improve: The majority of the course was used to teach formulas. Basic formulas are appropriate, however it quickly became very confusing and too in depth, beyond the scope of what a criminal analyst will use. The instructor is a civilian Police Sergeant, and it was apparent that he uses these formulas for supervisory level tasks such as computation of overtime rate, etc. I recommend focusing the course on what will be beneficial to a criminal analyst. The instructor is an absolute SME on Microsoft excel and I believe a reevaluation to focus the course counterdrug centric will return dividends. The instructor appeared receptive and stated the company, Police Technical, will shape a course design to its customer's preference.

This is a great course if working with budgets or lots of data to keep track of vehicles, equipment etc. im a beginner user of Excel and this course was a little over my head however I didn’t want to hold the class back so I just followed along.
